Outline of the Regular Korean Language Program

  • This program is a systematic multi-level Korean language education course for international students. 
  • Suitable for those with the goal of studying Korean at a Korean university or graduate school.
  • Recommended for those who want to learn Korean with the goal of business or employment.
  • 4 semesters per year (spring, summer, fall, winter), 5 days a week (Mon-Fri), for 4 hours a day.
  • Offers a student centered approach where classes divided into 6 levels of Korean language proficiency.
  • Study for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 2 years.

  • Situational communicative learning in order for foreign students to understand and speak Korean naturally.
  • Expressions and sentence structures frequently used in real life conversation.
  • Opportunities to experience and understand various situations according to each topic.
  • Improving students’ understanding of spoken language.
  • Developing effective communication skills through speaker-centered discussion and conversation practice.
  • Nurturing confidence in speaking the Korean language.
  • Offering a deeper understanding of Korean culture and society.

Teaching Materials

  • The Seoul National University Korean textbook series has been incorporated into our program.
  • There are 2 main textbooks for each stage (A and B) as well as 2 workbooks.

Necessary Qualifications

High school graduates, equivalent or higher. (Students expecting to graduate from high school cannot apply.)

Educational Expenses

  • Admission Fee: Free
  • Tuition: KRW 1,000,000/semester
  • Textbook fee: 100,000 won / semester (payment after admission, not included in tuition)

Completion Criteria

  • Students enrolled in the Korean language course must attend at least 80% of the total class hours (more than 160hours).

  • Attendance of less than 80% will mean that the student will not receive completion certification. 
    (Total class hours: 200 hours, 80% attendance hours: 160 hours)

Receipt of documents (by mail).

    Submit the following documents by mail to the Korean Language Education Center

  1. Admission application form (choice of Korean / Japanese / English), application download (click here).
  2. Original high school graduation certificate (Apostille or consular verification required, issued within 4 months of university receipt).
  3. Original bank balance certificate (issued within 1 month of university receipt stating a balance of at least 10,000 USD).
  4. Three passport photos (3.5cm X 4.5cm).
  5. A copy of your passport.
  6. Original family relation certificate (Only required if the bank balance certificate is in the name of the family)

    • One original copy of the graduation certificate. It must be apostilled or certified by a consular officer and issued within 4 months of university receipt.
    • If the certificate is not issued in Korean or English, the apostille or consular certificate must be translated and notarized.

Copy of Family Relations Certification

  • Submit only if parent’s bank balance certificate is used as proof of financial capacity.
  • It is not necessary to submit a bank balance certificate in your name.

  • Financial Proof Document: Original bank balance certificate (issued within 30 days of university receipt)
  • 10 million KRW/10,000 USD or more in the name of the applicant or their parent.
  • Submit the bank statement issued in English.
  • High school graduation certificate and documents proving financial ability must be submitted in original
  • In addition to the documents to be submitted specified, additional documents necessary may be requested in relation to the application qualifications.
  • Submitted documents will not be returned.
  • For students who do not need a D-4 visa, the paperwork process will be simplified. For more information intl@yju.ac.kr is required.
